Our thoughts for 2021

Well, it's been a crazy year and look at how amazing everyone is just trying to keep on keeping on. Gawd bless you one and all!

Music and the arts have never been more important to our lives and never been more of a savour to our lives than it is now. While we can't put on gigs right now, for the health of our industry all we ask is - and apologies for pointing out the obvious -  to keep a look out for supporting your favourite artists, keep enjoying their work, and check out all the amazing organisations that are working so hard to save our creative industries.

The threat is real, if you can support amazing people in these areas financially with the ticket money you would have spent please do. By that we mean artists and organisations like Music Venue Trust.  If you don't have any money then you can always just spread the word about great things people are doing to support our cultural industry to cheer everyone up.

Bless you all, thank you for even knowing about us. We are revving to go as soon as we feel it's safe to do so. In the  mean time we're going to start sharing photos of all the wonderful times we've had to date and if nothing else we hope it will bring a smile to your face.

For us right now we feel more committed than ever to support incredible artists who are brave enough to operate outside of the world of commercial grey smudgeland. We care more than ever that amazing creativity is accessible to all.

  • We're more committed than ever to supporting local independent businesses as our suppliers
  • We we'll be continuing to do what we can to offer work experience to people interested in learning about the arts too
  • It also feels now more important than ever before to be putting on wonderful gigs, talks, and films that inspire people, make people smile
  • ...and it's never been more crucial to continue with our ticketing policy to offer all this at an affordable cost for people to be able to take a risk and try something new

We want you to experience something wonderful, and we want the artists to access more of you lovely people! So lets look to 2020, live music and the arts and make this world remain a wonderful place.

We'll be starting a little shop in 2020 so watch this space.

Irregular folks' Summer Session news

Hello gig lovers, our yearly mini-fest "Irregular Folks Summer Sessions" will be taking a break.
What? Why? How come? Scroll down to read on...
Thanks to England's freak success in last years World Cup, we clashed with the Semi Finals. This meant that while attendance was still impressive considering, it just wasn't the numbers that were expected with the new city centre location. Sadly as a result Irregular Folks lost a lot of money. This is even with Arts Council funding for the festival - which has been fantastic - they understandably, don't fund 100% of the cost or make up for ticket sale losses.

Some of you know that Irregular Folks is essentially run by one person creatively, logistically and financially. It's of key importance that high quality artists and production form the core of Irregular Folks, but are as accessable as possible in the form of affordable ticket pricing. This does mean that even when it's sold out, the profits are minimal and actually any profit at all, is rare.

Rest assured Irregular Folks core values are not going to change. The time that has been freed up as a result of not doing the festival this year is being spent deep in research and development. However while it's likely the Summer Session may return in 2020, it's going to be a long road to bring the finances back in order to be able to ensure you and the awesome artists who play get the level of experience, production quality you all deserve. I love live music and the arts too much to stop doing gigs, so watch this space or sign up to the mailing list, for news of evening gigs and other Irregular Folks ventures. People have asked me how can they support Irregular Folks, and it really can be as simple as keeping an eye out for the next evening gigs and helping to spread the word and...well... just coming and enjoying the gigs!  I'll also be launching a super excited online shop soon. You'll be able to buy often difficult to find music from artists that have played our club, posters, tote bags, aprons and curiosities that catch the eye! Many of you have suggested the crowdfunding route. It's a great idea. It's just tricky when you are raising money for lost income, so this is taking a lot more thought.

I'm actually really excited about Irregular Folks future, and really enjoying the opportunity this year off running the festival, has given me to explore other ways of generating income for this club that I love so very much - and from what I hear has given others ace times too. One of these new ventures are that Irregular Folks is now open to private gig/event commissions. Woooohooo!

Thank you for all your incredible support so far.

Watch this space and let the show go on!

Best best wishes to you all
Love Vez!
